The Rat Race
As I was commuting home from my previous company, I started reading “The Art of Being Alone” by Renuka Gavrani. The book had an interesting perspective on solitude and loneliness.
Gavrani emphasizes the importance of being undefinable and not trying to fit into someone else’s label or expectation. She highlights that loneliness is not about being alone, but rather a state of disconnection from oneself. People often fill this void by seeking external validation, leading to a trap where they become dependent on others’ perceptions.
I resonated with Gavrani’s points on:
- Being true to oneself and having confidence in one’s beliefs
- Avoiding the herd mentality and instead building one’s own reality
- Not being afraid to be alone and facing one’s true self
While reading, I couldn’t help but observe the rat race around me, including myself. People are often running after materialistic goals, status, or power. However, it’s essential to remember that everyone has their unique purpose and reason for living.
After resigning from my position, I decided to pursue my passion and take some time off to relax and recharge. I want to focus on being human again, rather than just a robot chasing materialistic goals.
As Franz Kafka so eloquently put it: “I am a cage in search of a bird.” This resonated with me, and I wanted to share this message: be yourself, as you will miss the uniqueness if you try to replicate others.
New Beginnings—Recently, I’ve started giving my 100% effort, even if the results may not be what I expect. I’m trying to do things in a way that leaves no regrets and minimize my OCD tendencies. I’m also exploring new paths and soon plan to share my coding experiences with you.
I’d love to hear from you - are you stuck in this rat race, facing yourself and living up to others’ expectations? What are your thoughts on being alone and finding one’s true self?
My Takeaway Don’t try to fit into someone else’s label or expectation. Be undefinable.
- Avoid the herd mentality and build your own reality.
- Face your true self and don’t be afraid of being alone.
I’d love to hear about your thoughts on this topic!
